A significant focus of GTA officers, board members and others is spent in advocacy activities vis a vis Montgomery County Public Schools -- participating on MCPS committees, testifying and advocating for gifted and talented education before the Board of Education and Council Council, and attending public meetings.  When called upon, GTA also advocates at the state level.

Among GTA's past achievements:

• Elimination of "gatekeeping" or restricting access to AP courses
• Singapore Math Pilot, an effort ahead of its time.  Read a fascinating account at Education Next, Miracle Math: A successful program from Singapore tests the limits of school reform in the suburbs (Fall 2006).
• Delaying the revision of Policy IOA, which governs MCPS gifted education
